Each Donated Pig Brings Hope to a Cambodian Family
Our Cambodian Staff works with village chiefs to identify needy families that can take advantage of the charitable program. Once a family has been selected, we help them build a pen and provide them with a donated female piglet, usually about three months old. Once in the program, they’re given a $10 monthly salary and pig food to support their successful pig farm.
Once a pig is old enough to breed, we provide a stud and create a litter. Our staff veternarian vaccinates the piglets and works from that point forward with the family to care for the pigs. The family sells the pigs from the litter, keeping one female. Now they have two breeders and the process begins again. Once there are three breeders, a family farm is self-sustainable and they are ready to leave the program. Families reap the benefits of a consistent, reliable income.
A modest investment, an enormous return
The Vilage Pig Project serves as many as 35 families at a time, supporting between 150 and 250 pigs. Each pig helps to keep a needy family from hunger and poverty. While many charities have large administrative costs, The Village Pig Project spends 100% of every donation in the Kingdom of Cambodia. In a nation where less than 9% of the rural population has electricity, your American dollar commands an enormous return. Get involved today!
